ASUS started as a motherboard manufacturer in 1989, and motherboards are still the foundation of its identity. The company makes more motherboards than anyone else — at one point, one in three desktop PCs worldwide used an ASUS motherboard. The ROG (Republic of Gamers), TUF, and Prime motherboard lines cover everything from extreme overclocking to budget builds.

The Republic of Gamers brand has become a powerhouse. ROG gaming laptops, including the Zephyrus and Strix lines, consistently rank among the best available. The ROG Ally handheld gaming PC put ASUS in direct competition with Valve’s Steam Deck, offering a Windows-based portable gaming experience. ROG also covers monitors, peripherals, and networking gear.

ASUS graphics cards are among the most popular implementations of NVIDIA and AMD GPU designs. The ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, and Dual series offer different cooling solutions and price points for the same base GPU chips. ASUS’s custom cooler designs and factory overclocks make their cards frequent recommendations in PC building communities.

Beyond gaming, ASUS makes the ZenBook ultrabook line (the ZenBook S is impressively thin), ProArt products for creators, and ExpertBook laptops for business. ASUS networking products, especially the ZenWiFi mesh systems and ROG gaming routers, are well-regarded for performance and features.

ASUS also makes the Tinker Board series of single-board computers for IoT and maker applications, though they haven’t achieved the same popularity as Raspberry Pi.

Headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, ASUS generates over $16 billion in annual revenue. The company’s ability to span from budget motherboards to premium gaming hardware shows a product development depth that few competitors match.
