Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) is a marketing platform built in France that covers email, SMS, WhatsApp, chat, and CRM — all with pricing based on email volume rather than contact count. Armand Thiberge and Kapil Sharma founded the company in 2012 in Paris, and it rebranded from Sendinblue to Brevo in 2023.
The volume-based pricing model is the key differentiator. Most email platforms charge based on the number of contacts in your database, which gets expensive fast as your list grows. Brevo charges for emails sent instead, so you can maintain a large contact list without paying for subscribers you only email occasionally. The free tier includes 300 emails per day with unlimited contacts.
The platform includes a drag-and-drop email editor, transactional email API, SMS campaigns, WhatsApp Business messaging, marketing automation workflows, landing pages, sign-up forms, and a built-in CRM. It’s one of the few platforms that handles both marketing and transactional communications (order confirmations, password resets, shipping notifications) in a single product.
Brevo acquired several companies to build out its suite: Chatra (live chat), Yodel.io (phone integration), and MeetFox (meeting scheduling). The goal is a unified customer relationship platform that covers every communication channel a small business uses.
The company serves over 500,000 customers globally and processes billions of emails per month. Paid plans start at $25/month for 20,000 emails. Brevo raised $160 million in 2022, though it hasn’t disclosed its valuation. It competes with Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, and HubSpot, positioned as the more affordable option with broader multi-channel support.
