ChargePoint builds and operates electric vehicle charging infrastructure for commercial, fleet, and residential applications. The company doesn’t own most of its stations outright — instead, it sells networked hardware to businesses, property owners, and fleet operators, then provides cloud software to manage sessions, billing, and energy usage. That asset-light model has helped ChargePoint scale to more than 70,000 charging locations.

The product lineup covers everything from Level 2 AC chargers for workplaces and apartment complexes to DC fast chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW for highway corridor deployments. ChargePoint’s fleet management solution lets companies track vehicle charge status, schedule charging during off-peak hours, and integrate with route planning software to keep commercial EVs on the road.

Founded as Coulomb Technologies in 2007 and rebranded in 2011, ChargePoint went public through a SPAC merger in 2021. The company has partnerships with major automakers and is embedded in the infotainment systems of vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and others for seamless plug-and-charge experiences. ChargePoint has also expanded into Europe through acquisitions, building out networks in the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. With government mandates pushing EV adoption timelines forward, ChargePoint is investing heavily in next-gen hardware that supports the NACS connector standard alongside CCS.
