Cornerstone OnDemand has spent over two decades building one of the most comprehensive talent management platforms in enterprise software. Founded in 1999 in Santa Monica, California by Adam Miller, the company started as a learning management system and expanded into a full-spectrum talent platform covering recruiting, onboarding, learning, performance management, and workforce planning.

The platform’s core strength is its learning and development engine. Cornerstone’s LMS powers employee training for some of the world’s largest organizations, delivering everything from compliance training to leadership development programs. The company’s Content Anytime subscription gives customers access to a massive library of curated learning content from top providers. Its skills intelligence layer uses AI to map employee capabilities and recommend personalized development paths.

Clearlake Capital took Cornerstone private in October 2021 in a deal valued at $5.2 billion, ending its run as a public company. Under private ownership, Cornerstone acquired EdCast — a talent experience and learning platform — to strengthen its skills and content capabilities. The company serves over 75 million users across 180 countries, making it one of the largest talent technology providers globally. In an era where upskilling and reskilling have become critical business priorities, Cornerstone’s focus on learning-first talent management has proven particularly well-timed.
