Crisp was founded in 2015 by Baptiste Jamin and Valerian Saliou in Nantes, France. The platform started as a simple live chat widget and has expanded into a multi-channel customer messaging platform.

The product brings together live chat, email, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, and other channels into a single shared inbox. Support teams can handle conversations from all these sources without switching between tools. The interface is clean and responsive, which matters when agents are handling multiple conversations at once.

Crisp’s chatbot builder (CrispyBird) uses a visual flow editor to create automated responses. You can build bots that qualify leads, answer common questions, route conversations to the right team member, and collect information before a human agent takes over.

The knowledge base feature lets you create help articles that integrate directly with the chat widget. When a customer asks a question, the bot can suggest relevant articles before escalating to a human. This reduces support volume for common queries.

Other features include co-browsing (seeing a customer’s screen in real time), video calls initiated from the chat widget, and a campaign system for sending targeted messages based on user behavior.

Crisp’s pricing is competitive: the free tier supports 2 agents with basic live chat. The Pro plan is $25/month per workspace (not per agent) with 4 agents included. The Unlimited plan at $95/month includes unlimited agents and all features.

The company has remained bootstrapped and profitable with about 50 employees. They serve over 500,000 brands and have built a strong following among European startups and SMBs.
