Doximity is essentially LinkedIn for doctors, but with features built specifically for healthcare professionals. Founded in 2010, the platform grew to include over 80% of U.S. physicians and more than two million healthcare professionals overall. Members use it for HIPAA-compliant messaging, electronic faxing, telehealth visits, news aggregation, and continuing medical education credits.

The business model is straightforward — the platform is free for doctors, and pharmaceutical companies pay for targeted marketing and recruitment modules. Hiring solutions let hospitals and staffing firms reach physicians directly, bypassing traditional recruiters. The advertising side uses verified credentials and specialty data to deliver precisely targeted campaigns, which is why pharma companies find it more efficient than broad digital advertising.

Doximity went public in 2021 and hit a valuation north of $10 billion at its peak. Revenue has grown steadily, driven by high renewal rates on its marketing subscriptions. The company operates with a surprisingly lean team of around 1,000 employees. Its Dialer product became especially popular during the pandemic, letting physicians make telehealth calls from their personal phones while displaying their office number. Doximity also publishes annual physician compensation reports that have become an industry benchmark for salary negotiations and workforce planning.
