Enphase Energy pioneered the microinverter approach to solar installations. Instead of routing all panels through one central string inverter, each Enphase microinverter sits behind a single panel, converting DC to AC right at the source. That architecture means a shaded or underperforming panel doesn’t drag down the entire array, and installers get granular monitoring for every module on the roof.
The company’s IQ series — now in its eighth generation — integrates power conversion, rapid shutdown compliance, and communication into a compact unit. The IQ8 line can form a microgrid during outages without needing a battery, though Enphase also sells the IQ Battery for full home backup. Their Enlighten software platform gives homeowners and installers real-time visibility into energy production, consumption, and grid export.
Enphase shipped more than 75 million microinverters worldwide by the end of 2024 and holds a dominant share of the North American residential solar market. The company expanded manufacturing to the U.S. with contract facilities in South Carolina and Wisconsin, partly to qualify for Inflation Reduction Act production tax credits. With more than 3,800 employees and operations across North America, Europe, and Australia, Enphase continues to push efficiency gains while broadening into EV chargers and whole-home energy management.
