EVgo takes a different approach than most charging companies — it owns and operates its stations rather than selling hardware to third parties. The company focuses exclusively on DC fast charging, deploying 100 kW to 350 kW chargers in high-traffic locations like grocery store parking lots, shopping centers, and transit corridors. That strategy targets drivers who don’t have home charging and need a reliable, fast option during daily errands.

The network spans more than 1,000 fast charging locations across 35 states and serves all EV models with CCS, CHAdeMO, and now NACS connectors. EVgo struck a notable partnership with General Motors to build out 2,850 stalls, and it has similar deals with BMW, Subaru, and others. The company also offers the PlugShare app and network, one of the most popular EV charging station finders globally.

EVgo went public via a SPAC in 2021 and has been scaling rapidly since. The company builds its stations through a combination of owned development and partnerships with property owners who provide the real estate. Revenue comes from charging session fees, fleet contracts, and OEM partnerships. With the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program channeling billions in federal funding toward EV charging, EVgo is positioned to capture a share of publicly funded deployments along highway corridors and in underserved communities.
