Where Flock tried to differentiate was with built-in productivity tools — to-do lists, polls, reminders, and code snippets are native features rather than integrations.
Flock’s app store (called FlockOS) provides integrations with tools like Google Drive, Trello, GitHub, Asana, and more. Developers can build custom apps using Flock’s APIs and webhooks. The platform also includes a shared notes feature and a mailing list integration that routes emails into channels.
Pricing has been Flock’s key competitive advantage. The free tier is generous compared to Slack, and paid plans are significantly cheaper, making it attractive for small and mid-sized businesses, particularly in cost-sensitive markets. The company has claimed over 40,000 organizations as customers.
Flock is part of Turakhia’s broader portfolio of SaaS and internet businesses, which includes domain registrar Radix and content delivery platform Media.net (sold to a Chinese consortium for $900 million in 2016). This backing gives Flock stability, though it operates as an independent product with its own team.
The team messaging market has consolidated significantly, with Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Google Chat dominating enterprise adoption. Flock continues to serve organizations that want a straightforward, affordable alternative without the complexity and cost of the major platforms.
