Krisp was founded in 2017 in Yerevan, Armenia, by Davit Baghdasaryan and Artavazd Minasyan. The product does one thing exceptionally well: it removes background noise from audio calls. Dogs barking, construction outside, kids playing — Krisp filters it all out in real time using on-device AI processing.

What’s notable is that Krisp works as a virtual microphone and speaker layer, sitting between your real hardware and any communication app. It’s compatible with Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Slack, Discord, and hundreds of other apps without any special integration needed.

The company expanded beyond noise cancellation into meeting intelligence. Krisp now offers automatic transcription, meeting summaries, and action item extraction. It can join meetings as a bot-free assistant, meaning it captures everything without an awkward “Krisp Bot has joined” notification.

Krisp has raised over $17 million in funding and has attracted customers including Atlassian and various call center operations where background noise is a constant problem. The on-device processing is a key privacy feature — audio never leaves the user’s computer.

The team grew out of Armenia’s strong AI research community, and the company maintains its R&D center in Yerevan while operating commercially from the US. Krisp has become a default tool for many remote workers who do calls from less-than-quiet environments.
