Before Moralis and similar services, developers had to build custom indexing solutions to answer basic questions like “what tokens does this wallet hold?” or “what’s the price history of this token?” — work that could take weeks. Moralis condenses this into simple API calls that return structured data in milliseconds.
The company supports over 15 blockchains and processes billions of API requests monthly. Their cross-chain approach is particularly valuable as the blockchain ecosystem fragments across multiple networks — developers can use the same API calls regardless of which chain they’re querying.
Moralis initially offered a full backend-as-a-service platform but later pivoted to focus purely on data APIs, finding that developers preferred composable, focused tools over monolithic platforms. The company has built a large developer community, partly due to Liljeqvist’s YouTube following, and offers generous free tiers that lower the barrier to entry for new Web3 developers.
