Spryker was founded in 2014 by Alexander Graf and Boris Lokschin in Berlin. Graf was already well-known in German e-commerce circles as co-author of a popular commerce strategy book and co-founder of the Spryker Systems consultancy. They built the platform because enterprise clients kept asking for something between rigid SAP Commerce and custom-built solutions.
The platform uses a modular architecture with over 900 individual modules that can be composed into different business models. B2B, B2C, D2C, and marketplace setups all run on the same underlying technology. Spryker separates the frontend, backend, and commerce logic into distinct layers that can be developed and scaled independently.
Spryker raised over $180 million in total funding, including a $130 million Series C in 2022 led by TCV. That round valued the company at approximately $500 million. Customers include Toyota, Aldi, Hilti, Siemens, and Lekkerland.
The App Composition Platform lets businesses connect Spryker with third-party services through pre-built integrations. The platform handles complex B2B requirements — configurable products, quote management, approval workflows, company account hierarchies, and punchout catalog support — that many commerce platforms treat as afterthoughts.
Spryker employs around 600 people across Berlin, Hamburg, New York, and other locations. Lokschin serves as CEO while Graf heads up strategy and market development.
