Teamwork was founded in 2007 in Cork, Ireland, by Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey. They built the platform with one audience in mind: teams that do client work. Agencies, consultancies, and professional services firms are the core users, and the product reflects that focus.

The platform covers project management, time tracking, resource scheduling, and client billing in one place. Unlike generic PM tools, Teamwork lets you set budgets per project, track billable vs. non-billable hours, and generate profitability reports. That’s a big deal for agencies trying to figure out which clients actually make them money.

Teamwork’s interface keeps things straightforward. Projects break down into task lists, milestones, and subtasks. There’s a built-in chat feature (Teamwork Chat), a help desk product (Teamwork Desk), and a CRM (Teamwork CRM) that all connect natively. The company has been expanding this suite steadily over the years.

With over 6,000 paying customers and a growing presence in North America and Europe, Teamwork has carved out a solid niche. It raised $70 million in a 2021 funding round and has been profitable for most of its history, which is unusual for SaaS companies at its scale.
